Spring Gathering at Apsara
May 20, 2009
Barbara Fontaine, Treasurer, and Group Leader single handedly made all arrangements for a very pleasant and successful gathering. She impressed on the staff of Apsara that they had to re-establish the quality food and care that once was the reputation among rpcvs. We were hosted on the glassed in deck at the front of the restaurant. There were several apetizers and five different platters of variety from vegetarian to sea food to chicken and beef.
During the business portion of the meeting Barbara gave a synopsis of six charities for consideration for donations from our group. Donna Figueroa described Life for a Child, an international organization serving children with diabetes http://www.lifeforachild.idf.org/. The Salamatu Foundation and the Malawi Childrens Sewing project and the RI Food Bank also drew support.. There was a consensus that four or five organizations should be chosen and provided with $300 to $500.
In her greatest success of a night of much success, Barbara presented John Kotula and Andrew Moulton both rpcvs from Honduras. Each related vivid stories from his service. John has been very kind and allowed us to publish his story, Honduran Miracle. Don't miss it. Those of us who were there are going to read it again.
Those present: Barbara Fontaine, Andrew Moulton, John Kotula, Donna Figueroa, Ed and Anne Stulik, Nancy and Fred Caswell, Karen Boulanger, Claire Sartori, Susan Stanhope, Shelagh Goulis, John, Joan, Justin, and Christine Mathieu, Stan, Glennis, Blessin and Fortune Premy.
